Barbara Williams
MA, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)
Ms. Williams is a compassionate and talented psychotherapist serving the Washington Metropolitan and Southern Maryland Region. Her therapy style is both client-centered (maintaining an open and non-judgmental environment) and cognitive (helping clients to recognize unhelpful, inaccurate thinking). Her manner is authentic, as her clients quickly regard her style as being genuine and one who cares and one who wants her clients to succeed.
Ms. Williams’ catchphrase and therapeutic focus are to help clients examine What “N” Your (Their) Cup. The “Cup” represents the containment of the heart and life experiences. She espouses that good life experiences are rooted in love, respect, and forgiveness and that negative life experiences are often rooted in disappointment, hate, disrespect, and unforgiveness. The good experiences may impact the heart in a positive way, producing positive thinking from the heart. Whereas, the negative experiences may impact the heart in a negative way, producing negative thinking from the heart.
Ms. Williams teaches that if negative experiences are not dealt with properly (through spiritual and/or cognitive work), these unchallenged experiences will alter one’s heart and influence one’s way of thinking. On a continual scale, if not checked, these thoughts could influence one’s static outlook about love, life, family and other people.
Negative experiences can lead to negative thinking. Negative thinking can lead to negative feelings. Negative feelings can lead to a negative heart, unless altered through spiritual and/or cognitive work and growth.
Ms. Williams believes that if one chose to change their negative heart/thinking, they must first examine “What’s “N” Your (Their) Cup?” and do the work. After the work is done, shift the focus to their positive experiences by meditating on love, respect, and forgiveness. She believes if they choose to manifest love in their heart even if it starts as small as a mustard seed and allows it to grow, love will permeate in their heart.
Ms. Williams is a Washingtonian and currently resides in Washington DC. She began her career working as a federal government employee from an early age.
